Dear Roberta,
I e-mailed someone at the SMGF who is in a position to know about
this several days ago because I had the same question you did. I will
report back if I hear anything definitive. If you or anyone else hears an
answer to this question from someone at the SMGF I would appreciate it if
you would post the response to this list. I suspect that the mtDNA
haplogroups are simply predicted from the HVR1, 2, and 3 haplotypes, but I
don't know that for sure.
