For what its worth, according to the book Diccionario Heraldico by Lander Munoz the origin of the Alba name comes from a German Knight by the name of Mosen Pedro Albaney. This does seem to connect with Alban maybe Albey.

In latin america a surname could be taken from the maternal side. Often times if the Maternal line was more prestigious than the Paternal.
