Several interesting answers have been given to Ned's question.
I didn't set out to do genealogy, because I thought living in the
present was more important. After retirement I decided I would answer
ONE question, but this a much better game than playing the mystery
game MYST.
When I asked my 50 year old son not long ago if he would be interested
in entering the new Southard surname project, he said he didn't have
time for genealogy now but some day he might. I said IF he wanted to
do it, would he go ahead and do it now to help the project and so I
could know the results before I went to join his Dad. Well, when his
YDNA67 came back with a 66/67 match, he was HOOKED! The other man's
ancestors have never been to NA and we have a relatively secure trail
back to a marriage in New Amsterdam in 1650. My question to this mail
list....... HOW UNUSUAL IS THAT??
So maybe you can interest the next generation by showing how their DNA
matches up with someone on the other side of the world. However, I
think grandchildren are more apt to be interested in Grandpa's passion
than in Dad's passion - IF they love and respect Grandpa.

: since in my family it seems that those with the greatest interest in
any form
: of Genealogy are those Who have come close to realizing their Own
Mortality. I
: am curious as to if this is something unique to My Own Family Group
or are the
: Young simply not interested in the topic in general. I would like to
interest my
: Younger Cousins but am unsure of the proper methods to do so. Enjoy
the Day,
: Ned.
