I just got in by registering.

They test for eight genes for type 2 diabetes, which is far better than I
was expecting. It looks like it might be worthwhile to save up for the
test, though I don't know exactly when.

TCF7L2, CDKAL1, CDKN2A/B, PPARG, HHEX, SLC30A8, IGFBP2 and KCNJ11 genes.

They test for one gene for obesity. Never mind which gene; I don't think
there is just one gene for obesity, so I don't think the results of a test
on one gene would tell me much.

They test for - get ready for this - a GENE FOR EXFOLIATIVE GLAUCOMA!
Now, I knew there must be one, because I have the exfoliative syndrome that
can lead to exfoliative glaucoma, and several family members have had
glaucoma. I thought it was asscociated with nearsightedness because the
changed eye structure makes it easier for flakes to slough off, and
nearsightedness sure runs in the family. On the other hand, my brother ahs
glaucoma and is not near sighted. Mind you, a simple eye exam can tell
you if you're at risk of developing exfoliative glaucoma any time soon -
there's a particular easy to spot clinical picture of your vitreous fluid
full of flakes that are sloughed off from wherever. That problem tends to
worsen in middle age.

They test for the risk factors for rheumatoid arthritis; I've been trying
for half my life to learn that.

I guess I'll have to get a part time second job.

Yours,
Dora Smith
