I hope soon someone brings a new source of ydna data to the list so I can
move on from this thread.
A book with theory about why some societies "succeeded" (or pick your
alternative verb) over others was presented as the facts about the when,
how, and why of it all. I replied that this all was Diamond's opinion
(rather than fact), and I considered it somewhat myopic.
If you want a hint of all the powerful factors Diamond almost completely
ignored, they are the intangible aspects of the human animal and his
condition such as ideas, belief systems, and institutions. I believe you
know very well that if I diverted the thread to the details of these
alternative factors, the fur would quickly be flying, and our administrator
would be shutting the thread down.
So absent some new data, I'll go shovel snow. Ken
