Very interesting! Do you know whether S57 is in the same
palindromic region as DYS413, or, for that matter, whether it is
in any palindromic region? Perhaps someone will put together a
group discount order for this (hint, hint...)

For all those interested in the J haplogroup, I'm pleased to be
able to
pass along some great news from Jim Wilson of Ethnoancestry
regarding a
recently discovered SNP, S57. He has tested a small number of
samples
to date, and the results are exciting. It is ancestral
(negative) in
other haplogroups, and in J1, J2b, and members of J2a (M410+)
who do
*not* have the deletion at DYS413. It is derived (positive), so
far, in
samples tested within J2a that *do* have the 413 deletion --
within
J2a1*, J2a1k, and J2a1b.
