Bob,
I would never call handing a Genographic Kit to a relative with the
understanding that I had paid for it and intended to use it for
genealogical research then transferring the results unethical. But I
am an upfront person and my relatives all know that about me. If they
say 'My name stays out off the database.' then it stays out of the
database.
I do have misgivings about a company that transfers results to another
with out explicit consent. I have even more misgivings about a
non-profit that gives results and pedigree data to a for-profit firm
without advance notification. My misgivings persist even being sure
that both acts were done without malice. Those are not *my* morals.
They make me uncomfortable. I know that my relatives would be even
more distressed by ether of those events impacting their samples.
Others have other views. I respect that.
