For the tests at RG, the DNA is stored at SG for 20 years, whether the
person opted in to Ancestry or not.
You may also want to look into home storage kits also.

Three cousins were tested by RG. Since one lives near me, I had the kit
sent to my house; I was with him when he took the test, so I know that he chose
not to have DNA stored. I'm not sure what the other two decided to do, but
perhaps if I ask they will remember which option they selected.
