Dear Gary,
I think that if your Y results are already in the SMGF Y database
then your mtDNA results will almost certainly appear in the SMGF mtDNA
database eventually. Keep in mind that the SMGF is catching up on a huge
backlog of mtDNA testing. The last SMGF mtDNA release in January had 51,000
results in it. However, the SMGF paper at
http://www.smgf.org/resources/papers/Poster_FISV2007_Ugo-Ale.pdf indicates
that the SMGF had collected over 80,000 samples by last September. Thus,
there are results in the SMGF mtDNA database for only about 64% of all of
the samples that the SMGF had collected as of September 2007. Given that
they added over 25,000 results to their mtDNA database between July 10, 2007
and January 25, 2008, I think it is reasonable to expect that they will be
adding another 25,000-30,000 results to the mtDNA database over the next 6
months. I would be surprised if your mtDNA results don't appear in the SMGF
mtDNA database within the next year.
There are a fair number of male participants in the Mennonite
project who have mtDNA results in the SMGF mtDNA database but have few or no
marker results in the SMGF Y database. I hope that when the SMGF catches up
with their backlog of mtDNA testing that they will work on catching up with
the Y testing.
Sincerely,
Tim

My ydna sample is in the database but my mtdna is protected so i cant search
for it. If they got results from my ydna is there a chance they couldnt
extract the mtdna?
