That is interesting regarding a connection to southwest England. One of the
Lane matches indicates an earliest known ancestor of William Lane (b. ca
1580) of Beaminster, England. Beaminster is in Dorset in southwest England.

Do you know where I could find more info on this particular subclade of R1a?
Like I said, I'm new to R1a.

Thanks,
Mike

I agree with Vince's assessment on this, but I should add that R1a with 388
= 10 is a recognized clade of R1a with significant English membership (as
well as continental/Scandinavian) with a focus on southwest of England.

Let me add to this discussion that both R1a Lane haplotypes have the
somewhat unusual DYS388=10.

Robert Stafford suggested testing more cousins, which is a very good
plan, and the Lane surname project at FTDNA already has two other R1a
members with DYS388=10 and long paper trails who would be especially
good candidates.

I would especially look for a way to get these other two to upgrade
to 25 or 37 markers.

From purely subjective point of view, having four R1a Lanes with
close 12 marker results including one unusual allele might tip the
scale on close relationship from "possibly" to "probably".
