But they aren't. We must generally take the market--both vendors and
consumers--as they are, not as we might like them to be.

Right now, no vendor sells more than 12 markers below the $100 price point,
to my knowledge. And right now, I daresay that only one vendor in this
field has worldwide brand name recognition and unquestioned credibility with
ordinary consumers: National Geographic. Their package includes only 12
markers, haplogroup classification, a DVD, and a customized web page; but
that is apparently enough to satisfy close to 300,000 customers.

Over 35% of the yDNA entries in my project, and about 30% of the mtDNA
entries, originated with National Geographic.
