Both my Clark, Smith, and Brown cousins have 12/12 matches with the same surname that do not hold up at 25 markers.
I'm not looking up the exact numbers, but as I recall they only matched 18/25 with the other Clark group, for example. Thus, the match falls apart. There are at least several Clarks/Smiths in each distinct group. I have had some success by emailing those who are a 12 marker match to try to convince them to upgrade to 25. It seems a shame to buy 12 markers and be in limbo about matches. Several men still have not upgraded. So without a paper trail, we can't know if they are kin. In the Brown example, even a 25 marker match fell apart with an upgrade.
