The problem with bead chips is that most people can be accurately
placed in the known phylogenetic trees much less expensively using
traditional methods than using bead chips.

The process of testing all the known (but unplaced) Y-SNPs could be
done much less expensively using traditional methods than by using
bead chips, once the development costs of a custom chip are figured
in. And once those SNPs are placed, the need for such a chip
evaporates.
