If you go to FTDNA's website and look at the matches on there, there should be a new name. When you visited it first after getting the e-mail, it'll have had a ** by the name to highlight it.

Unfortunately, by "close", they can mean a fairly significant genetic distance when it comes to TMRCA. All they seem to mean is that it's close enough in terms of genetic distance that it gets put on the list that's on your pages.

That's not -too- awful bad, though. If they only ever announced people who were under, say, 700 years distant, I'd never have any matches show up at all. (Amazingly, I'm not even 700 years old.) I've used the announcements and the matches on their site less for immediate genealogical research and more for spotting clusters. There simply aren't enough people in the database yet, though, for me to get much more value out of it, which is a pity.
