Subject: [DNA] real relatedness or fluff and fairytales?

Thomas,
I have a 23andMe match with another person that shows on Family Inheritance as being across the centromere in chromosome 18. Jim McMillan has shown this match as: Start 18011894266, Size 10418811, cM 9.457 and SNPs 1457. From a genealogical standpoint any connection seems extremely remote. Should I take this seriously or not?

Note that 23andMe also ignores the centromere regions completely.
This makes the calculations easy for them but may introduce some severe
length misinterpretations when a haploblock stretches over the centromeric
region.
