Subject: [DNA] Forensic DNA sample matching
Date: Thu, 4 Mar 2010 13:51:52 -0700
There was an article in yesterday's Denver Post about a college librarian
suspected of sending hate mail based on DNA samples collected.
It said "Jay DeVaughn, 41, was charged Monday in federal court with one
count of sending a threatening letter to a couple he knew in 2008. DNA on
that letter was matched to that on a napkin, fork and spoon taken from a
wastebasket in his college office last week."
I wonder if the sample came from the letter itself or the envelope or stamp
that had been licked. It seems like a letter would be a poor source of DNA.
