Over a month ago 23andMe somehow revised its mtDNA haplogroup assignments "to align with PhyloTree.org". However, whatever they did clearly caused errors in mtDNA haplogroup assignments. While my reassignment was one of them, it was not as obviously wrong as your father's. My correct Hg is H5b and was previuosly labeled as H5 by 23andMe before they made their "revision". Presently they have me as H36, yet I have none of the required mtDNA mutations for that assignment - a clear error.
I have written their help group twice about the mistake and finally was given this response as to when they intend to fix thus problem, "Our current plan is to revise the algorithms over the next month or so, and to make the actual corrections by the beginning of July."
Perhaps I don't understand the magnitude of the problem their "revision" caused, but it seems to me that waiting until July is less than satisfactory, and I've yet to see any public notice by 23andMe acknowledging the problem and any action to correct it - apparently they would like this issue to fade silently away.
What is clear to me is that for being a scientific-based organization, someone took much less that a scientific approach to a statistical review of how their revised mtDNA assignment algorithm affected existing user assignments before releasing it to the public, and if they did perform a proper statitistical review, it was performed poorly...

Hello list I got my dad's results back today ...it say H13a1a and my ancestry painting came back 100% European I am African American , I have done My husband, my son ,my Aunt ,my daughter,and my dad and their results are good and they all match one another . What happened with my results? I emailed 23&me this is upsetting !!! Marla Jones
