I am embarking on a small research program to see what I can find about
those 16 matches on chromosome 17
I have posted the section of the the family results of chr. 17 from 60 Mb
to 78.6 Mb, the end, here
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jswdna/180929-autosomal-results-chr%2017.csv<http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/%7Ejswdna/180929-autosomal-results-chr%2017.csv>
That is 2888 SNPs from FTDNA Family Finder results.
I will be inviting my cousins compare this using the utility provided by
Mr Pike here
http://www.math.mun.ca/~dapike/FF23utils/comp.php<http://www.math.mun.ca/%7Edapike/FF23utils/diffs.php>
Or to send me all or part of their raw data so I can do an analysis of our
"speculative" connection.
I will then take that data and see what I can make out of it.
The utility does not allow for any miscalls - it does treat no calls as
matches.
Thus I should get a slightly different result than what FTDNA shows me.
Any thoughts on improvements to this procedure?
Maybe I should request they change the 500 limit to 200?
Any one out there who wants to try it out here are the Instructions
Download your raw file from FTDNA
Unzip that file (FTDNA has instructions)
Download the chromosome 17 file from above
Run Mr Pike's comp utility.
Note this runs on your machine so it may take a few seconds and your data
does not leave your machine.
The result will look something like this
=============
Files to be processed:
File1: 4354-autosomal-results(2).csv
File2: 180929-autosomal-results-chr 17.csv
Single Strand Matches of length at least 500 will be reported.
Double Strand Matches of length at least 200 will be reported.
No-Calls will be treated as matches.
Chr 17 has a Single Strand Match of length 519 from position 60031750
to position 62774459 (2.74 Mb)
Chr 17 has a Single Strand Match of length 1603 from position
62797556 to position 69681172 (6.88 Mb)
To inspect individual strands, a separate utility can be used for
pairs<http://www.math.mun.ca/%7Edapike/FF23utils/23strand.php>or for
trios <http://www.math.mun.ca/%7Edapike/FF23utils/23trio.php> of raw data
files.
Processing Completed.

If you have no matches the output looks like this
===========
Files to be processed:
File1: 95823-autosomal-results.csv
File2: 180929-autosomal-results-chr 17.csv
Single Strand Matches of length at least 500 will be reported.
Double Strand Matches of length at least 200 will be reported.
No-Calls will be treated as matches.

trios <http://www.math.mun.ca/%7Edapike/FF23utils/23trio.php> of raw data
files.
