Subject: [DNA] Don't contribute to an FTDNA project using a gift card

Here's an interesting gotcha. FTDNA uses PayPal to collect contributions
for projects. But PayPal's web site has a serious bug with respect to gift
cards (and rebate cards). As soon as you enter the card's information,
PayPal pre-authorizes $1 on the card. Then, when you actually submit your
request, PayPal charges the card the full amount without removing the $1
pre-authorization. Predictably, the transaction fails because it exceeds
the card's limit.
For some time, project members have complained that they can use such a card
to order a test from FTDNA directly, but they cannot use that same card to
contribute to the project. I finally found the reason.
