Now that the Y111 “test” results have returned to normalcy, for most of us at least, STR DYS716 is once again behaving as it use
to. And what it use to be was a good steady reliable value of 26 repeats if you were Haplogroup R-L21+ no matter the downstream snp.
A few people are 25 or 27 instead of 26 but they don’t seem to be as consistent as the Irish T3 (L226+). The Irish T3 people
alone seem to always have a value of 24 at DYS716 and so far I haven’t seen a 24 elsewhere among L21+ people.
Does anyone know of a snp other than L226+ with DYS716 = 24? Right now, you could predict L226+ with just one STR, amazing.

This interesting value of STR DYS716 has been noted and some time ago I set up a Ysearch ID WSNPA to investigate.

These are the values I used for Ysearch WSNPA and I search with a GD=2.
DYS434=9
DYS435=11
DYS485=15
DYS495=16
DYS638=11
DYS643=10
DYS714=25
DYS716=25
DYS717=19
DYS726=12

It pulls out 209 haplotypes at the moment, 12 of which are modal entries, so excluding these we have:-

DYS716=24 11
DYS716=25 2
DYS716=26 180
DYS716=27 3

ALL DYS716=24 are Irish Type III, so yes if you have this value you are Irish Type III.
Of course, this haplogroup is quite readily separated by looking at DYS459=8,9 and DYS464=13,13,15,17 as Ken Nordtvedt reported
back in early 2006.
