Subject: [DNA] Kittler for I1d1 P109+ Here I go again

I do not understand why the Kittler test has not caught fire in those within clades of haplogroup I where it can be informative. But it hasn’t

Today I was placing a new I1d1 P109+ within my database and see that Kittler tests for this subhaplogroup could be quite helpful.

I1d1 has many 14-14 at DYS385 which of course should not do a Kittler.

But there are many 13,14 and 14,15 at DYS385 within I1d1. Those of course split into two populations with the Kittler --- into 13-14 or 14-13 Kittler, and into 14-15 or 15-14 Kittler. Those split pairs are two steps of mutation apart based on just DYS385

The Kittler test is rather cheap at FTDNA. This Kittler information can also help for those mainly interested in speculative genealogical matching. It can increase the genetic distance between two haplotypes quite a bit.

So P109+ I1d1 folks; do the Kittler.

Actually, there are many places in y haplogroup I where the Kittler tests could add to our knowledge substantially. Some areas have been robustly tested, but some not.

Ken
