Come to think of it, I think my transfers have eventually received haplogroup assignments, but I'm not sure what would happen if a backbone test was needed for someone who did the lower cost transfer.

I think it's because if they had to run a backbone haplogroup test starting without a sample, they would be losing money.

You know, with Family Tree DNA customers, even 12 marker clients get their
haplogroup predicted, so why the difference with Ancestry transfers?
