When I googled "my heritage estes" I found their site easily. There is a
box in the upper right hand corner of their screen that says "Estes family
DNA project" in that box there is a box that says "learn more" and if you
click it, it displays the information from my project pages at Family Tree
DNA, plus a project count. Under this info there is a box that says "get a
DNA test and join this project" which takes the person to a page to purchase
DNA kits.
It appears that you don't have to join My Heritage to join the project or
purchase the kits.
I desperately need European participants and I hope that this will encourage
surname participation outside of the US.

Subject: [DNA] My Heritage
I have just accessed the Home page of 'My Heritage and I cannot locate the
Surname projects. The front page only offers mtDNA and Family Finder and I
Had to hunt to get to Y DNA. But even here, I cannot locate "surname
Projects".
Could someone please provide the URL?
Gail; Just go to Google and enter "My Heritage Lewis*".*Or any other surname
you think of.
If they have put up a page for that surname you will get a result listing
the URL.
I never heard of this company until two weeks ago. I certainly think every
administrator should have been sent a letter and allowed to opt out if they
so desired.
Their links don't lead to my projects. They lead to a page requiring the
prospective participant to join My Heritage and provide a genealogy chart I
suppose. I can only get so far without joining this site which I don't
intend to do. It seems an unnecessary delay and possible frustration leading
to the person giving up.
I am disappointed and confused.
I read that article and this aspect was not mentioned.
Here's the announcement on GeneaPress:

html
Additionally I feel this is a poor way to communicate new developments;
through someone's blog we may or may not follow.
