Some archaic words you might find on an inventory. These were on the
Inventory of Richard Simcocke[e], my 11th g-grandfather, dated 1 Oct 1647,
of Burton, Cheshire, England.


Brandsett = fire set
Caddowe = caddow = rough wollen cloth
Gobards = cobbards = iron rods to hold wood in the fireplace
Piggin = stave pail with one stave longer to serve as a handle
Reading sheets = sheets made of a type of coarse cloth
Thrave = a number of grain sheaves made into shocks or stooks
Testor = tester = a type of canopy
Treene ware = wooden ware
Tumbrelle = tippping cart for dung and the like
Turnelle = tub, often oval
