Audrey,

Just notice your email address "not a real one". So posting this here.

In said you thought your relatives were from County Down. I have a
partial list of Griffiths Valuation for County Down, Barony of Iveagh
Upper, Upper Half, Union of Newry.

In the parish of Clonduff, and townland of Islandmoyle there is a Patrick
Shiel. According to MacLysaght Shields and Shiel are one in the same.

In the parish of Drumgath, the townland of Drumlough found:

Joseph Rush

In Parish of Warrenpoint, town of Warrenpoint found:

William Shiels

In parish of Clonduff, townland of Ballynagappoge found:

James Waterson
John Waterson

In Hilltown found:
Possibly your Great Great Grandfather? Henry Waterson
John Waterson

Don't know if there are others with same name in other areas of County
Down, I just have the Griffith Valuation for this particular area.

The Griffith Valuation is a record of all those who was a tenant or a
lessor of land in the mid 19th century. It lists the head of the
household.

Good luck,
Margaret (Mairead)

Seeking information on Patrick MYERS who married Catherine SULLIVAN in
February 1857 in Kildorrery, Co. Cork. Myers was from Scart Townland
and Sullivan from Ahacross Townland. Son John was born in February 1857
in Meadstown Townland, Patrick in Scart Townland in 1859, and William in
Ballyvoddy Townland in 1862. All Townlands are in Kildorrery RC
Parish. Young Patrick emigrated to US and was my grandfather. I have
NO information on John except for his birth. William emigrated at some
point to Australia and was in Cloncurry, Q'ld at least from 1917-1924.
I have no information on the elder Patrick. I assume he died pre 1
January 1864 as there is no death record. I also assume he died post
October 1861 because William was born 20 July 1862 requiring Patrick to
be there at least nine months, or thereabouts, earlier. Griffith's
Valuations list her in Rockmills, Ballyvoddy Townland in 1884 and
describes her as a widow.

Anybody out there with information on anything written above?

Samuel Howey. What is the best way for me to go about finding out more
information on these Howeys?

Hello. I'm curious to find the origins of the name "Ferry" in
co. Donegal. I already know my relatives in the area, but I'm not sure
that they are aware of the ultimate origins of the name themselves. I
have heard that the name originates in North Fanad, but alternative
suggestions I've heard, are in the Gweedore area. Few of those "Irish
Family Names" books even list the name. I'm wondering if anyone could
shed some light on this matter.

Hi there;
I'm researching my ancestors, KILCOLLINS. They lived in New
Brunswick, Canada in the 1700's. Prior to this they came from
IRELAND, but the name does not exist in any IRISH name book and I
can't find them listed on any ships lists. Was it common to change
names upon arriving in Nth America? If so, then the name could have
actually been COLLINS with the prefix KIL added.
Any help will be appreciated,
