Hi Pat,
I had the same problem about a month ago. Had the following advise from
LeeAnn in Canada.
It worked a treat.
http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html

and:

for known surname lists by geographic location

Good luck,

Subject: Name confusion on a marriage certificate
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
I have a certificate for a marriage dated 16 June 1883 in Ballymena, Co Antrim.
The marriage is between John Turner and Hannah Burrows; he's a batchelor,
she's a spinster. They are both of full age. His father is Robert Turner;
her father is Adam Burrows.
At the bottom of the certificate, he has signed his name "John Turner"; she,
however, has signed "Hannah Borris", and has a witness named Margaret Borris.
I have their daughter's birth certificate (March 1886) which states the
mother's name as Hannah Turner, formerly Borris/Barris, with a witness named
Ann Borris/Barris (it's either an "a" or an "o").
Any ideas on why the two names? Just spelling?
Also, they were married in the Registrar's office in Ballymena. Does this
say anything about their religion, or lack thereof?
Thanks;
Dave McNeilly

I believe the earliest complete census for Ireland is 1901, or 1900. I want to
try to locate an ancestor, William Norris, born 1839. He would have been
living in County Down, in or near Kilkeel. If anyone happens to have access
to this information, or can direct me to a source, I'd appreciate it.

Subject: [INFO] Looking for a professional researcher?
Posting-Frequency: 7 days
Last-Modified: 1997/08/25
Version: 1.14
If you are looking for a professional researcher to help you, then the
correct place to look is in the soc.genealogy.marketplace newsgroup. As
an aid to find people who cover the United Kingdom and Ireland, I post a
monthly list of researchers to soc.genealogy.marketplace.
The document lists only the professional researchers who have requested
to be included. The intention is that the list should be posted to the
soc.genealogy.marketplace newsgroup on a monthy basis. This is to ensure
that adverts are not posted to the soc.genealogy.britain newsgroup or
the soc.genealogy.ireland newsgroup or their associated mailing lists.
A pointer message will be posted every week to remind readers where to look.
No endorsement of any kind is given or implied in any way. It is up to
the reader to ensure themselves that the researcher they will to use is
reputable.
If you want the lastest version of the list, you can either wait until
it is posted again, or look for it on the WWW at the URL
http://www.meertech.demon.co.uk/genuki/adverts.htm or via email by
sending the following message:

I disagree with the above postings. Spam in my newsgroups is
infrequent and recognisable and easily zapped. No problem, probably
thanks to list owners. HOWEVER, spam in my email inbox is increasing
at a very rapid rate. I subscribe to a lot of genealogy listservs and
they are getting loaded with spams offering all sorts of
non-genealogical scams. I get a lot of email a day. I have tried a
couple of spam filters offered through ZDNet, but they have problems
discriminating spam from legit listserv messages. I spend a lot of
time perusing email to be sure of content because they are not always
obvious. Otherwise the filters would get them. Soon half my email
will be spam. It's like be surrounded by a growing cloud of
mosquitos.
In sum, spam takes up space in my ISP and on my computer, it wastes
too much of my time, it is invasive and unwelcome, and it is an
undeserved free advertising ride to spammers at my expense. Let's
get rid of them.

Is anyone researching the name MARKEY in Kells, county Meath? My
ancestor was Christopher Markey, born circa 1828, supposedly in Kells
(army enlistment info), son of Barnard and Agatha. Attempts so far to
find his bp have failed.
Christopher came to Western Australia as a pensioner guard in 1850.
I'd like to hear from anyone with a connection with this gent, or
indeed, from anyone with Markey connections in Kells or Meath.
Thanks,
Robyn.

Bell's Book of Irish Surnames says re Ferry:
Ferry, also spelt Fairy, is found almost eclusively in Co. Donegal, and is an
anglicisation of the old Cenel Conail sept name, O Fearadhaigh. This probably
derives from the personal name Fearadhach, meaning "manly". The name is also
well known in Co. Sligo and other parts of Connacht. The O'Ferrys were
followers of the MacSweeneys. The name has occasionally been confused with
Ferris.

Thanks very much Linda. That's more info than I've been able to pry
out of my cousins, who bear the name. Mind you, they could be covering
up a bit of scandal from the past, involving the fiendish Lord Leitrim,
as has been suggested by my father!!!

Subject: Conflicting information
Help!
I just received some information from the Westmeath Heritage Centre. In
looking for a William MAHON they sent me Baptismal records for Kilcleagh
Parish (I believe that the Church might be St. Patrick's and that Kilcleagh
is the Civil Parish?) Interestingly enough there were three William MAHON
listings - one in 1842, one in 1845 and one in 1851 - all apparently born to
the same parents - James MAHON and Judith ROURKE????
Is is common to give children the same name over and over? Am I to assume
that the previous Williams died as children and they named the next born son
William? These same Baptismal records show Judith ROURKE and Michael MAHON
having a daughter in 1840 named Mary, and Judith ROURKE and James MAHON
having a daughter Mary in 1836!!!???
This would put Judith being married to James MAHON in 1836 and Michael MAHON
in 1840 and then again to James in 1842!!??? Any suggestions as to what
could be going on here? Does anybody have experience with the Heritage
Centre research? Is it generally reliable?
Can anybody give me the address of St. Patrick's Church in Kilcleagh Parish
and a priest's name? Does anybody know of any MAHON families still residing
in that area?
Any help would be appreciated
