Subject: Aramay, Ireland?

According to my great grandfather's death certificate, he was born in
Aramay, Ireland. My mother and several aunts have told me he was from
County Cork, however, I've been unable to find a town called Aramay. Is
there such a place? If not, could this be a misspelling of another Irish
town?

I would really appreciate any help. Please e-mail me if you can shed any
light on this.

Your passenger lists are wonderful. I'm fascinated by the information included
in the manifest. Where did you get them?

I have read that there are some lists available for emigration from
Irish ports and wondered if anyone knew anything about them?
I am searching for information on my gr/grandmother Mary Ellen GOUGH who
hailed from Cahir/Carigataha/Ardfinnan area of Tipperary, born 15 Aug
1864 , emigrated to US via NY, married John McCarthy (brn in NYC and
their first child was born in Connecticutin May of1887. My estimate is
she emigrated between 1875 and1886 and that would be a lot of NY
arrival films to check. She became a citizen when she married John, so
no papers are filed andcensus info doesn't say anything about her
arrival. Luckily I stll am in close touch with cousins on that side and
will be in Ireland next August, but they do not know when she left
either (no records in family papers).
Is there a way to check lists of people LEAVING?
Maura

If you use http://www.local.ie/ and then use Local Post selection
instead of choosing Counties, you can Post Local in ALL 32 counties
(including NIRL)

I missed the start of this thread, but there is a well-known Protestant
PRESTON family in Ireland, that are still there today. They were centred
in Dublin, Westmeath and Limerick, and some of them even married into my
lot!
