Bernard would probably be a descendant of 1709er Protestant Palatine,
Adam Cornelius, who was living on the Southwell Estate at Rathkeale in
1720. The family name is found under various spellings: CORNEILLE,
Corneal, Cornelly, Cornell, Cornaell, etc.
They married into other Palatine families: Benner, Ruttle, Shoudlice,
Dolmage, Dope, Sparling, Shier, Cronesberry.
A couple pages are devoted to this family in H.Z. Jones' "The Palatine
Families of Ireland;" and there are various references to them in
Patrick O'Connor's "People Make Places." Unfortunately, the Corneille
family history has not been as well documented as many of the other
