searching for a historical society near Throgs Neck, NY as that is where my
ancestor, John Driscoll lived when he imigrated to the US in 1835. He
worked at/on Fort Schuyler. He was in the Civil war and I need to be put in
touch with the proper dept. in that area to find records on his inlistment.
Also need to know why a soldier's record of unit previosly marked"unknown"
would be scratched out and the word "civil" is written in. This applies to
the civil war era. What would "civil" mean in those circumstances????
