I too, would like an answer to your question, my
location is Rath Cemetery.,Tralee, Co. Kerry.
I hope someone can answer your question, then
perhaps, I can learn from their answer, to you.
I checked with Kerry County Council, last Sept.,
they are responsible for the sale, and upkeep of
the graveyard.
Perhaps you could try Galway County Council.
The clerk at K.C.C. said they only had records there
going back to I973, she had no idea, where older ones
were kept., and suggested, I try to find the caretaker,
of the graveyard.
Guess what, he was no where in sight. *smile*
I would love to know, where older records are kept.,
and how did they keep track, of who was buried in
each family plot., going back over the years, to say
I92Os, and I93Os.
I understand, they have rules, for each family grave,
as to how many can be buried, in each plot.
(i.e. single grave, double grave, triple grave), and a
certain time must elapse, between buriels.
This seems, like a morbid subject, hopefully someone
has the answer.
In our own family, The headstone goes back to I8OI,
I believe my grandfather is buried in the family plot,
but his name, or the names of three of his sisters, do
not appear on the headstone. (I would say due to lack
of money, back in the early I9OOs.)I don't like having
to guess, It would be nice to have their names put on
there, If, in fact, that is where they are buried.
Can any enlighten us please? on this
I have asked many, but no one seems to know the
answers.
Thanks in advance
Kate.
