I just went through an experience with NARA in the Boston area that answers your
question. I e-mailed my request to NARA asking if they could direct me in
searching for my father's naturalization documents. I received a reply in less
than 24 hours that indicated they searched the records from 1902 to 1966 and
found my father's documents. I had a choice of sending $10 for copies or going to
NARA and make copies for 25 cents per copy. NARA is only 50 miles away and I
wanted to find a passenger list. The gentleman that sent me the e-mail not only
found the microfilm for me but loaded in the copier and found the record to copy,
then found the microfilm for the passenger list and helped me find the ship's
list. I had all the information I was seeking in less than an hour. I was
extremely pleased with the courtesy and service.
