I understand what you are going through I looked for Amos Darwin Smiths
parents for years. I found him living with a Joel and Polly Crane in the
1860 Indiana Census. I later learned from another source that her name was
Mary and that she had married a second time to Joel Crane. She was Listed in
the 1860 as Polly. In her Obituary it gave her name as Mary. So I believe
that your Polly is a nickname for Mary.
