Thankfully we have the LDS these days as a yardstick against which to
measure the behaviour of other churches in the matter of Genealogy. If it
was the Catholic church that had produced the VRI we would be paying through
the nose for it. It is not through applying high-minded Christian virtues
that this organization became one of the greatest treasure houses the world
has ever known. You seem to forget that the lot of them have been kept
throughout their lifetime by those whose vital records are at issue and
their descendants. Now they feel they have the right to sell these as
chattels in the marketplace.
