What you should be looking for are passenger lists for vessels arriving
at the port of New York. The National Archives has films of these
records from 1820 (not all are indexed, however). They can be obtained
from the National Archives, or easier, at your local LDS Family History Center.
It doesn't matter whether your ancestors came through Castle Garden or
Ellis Island or any other particular facility/building. The records are
all kept as records for the port of New York.
