Get to your nearest LDS, Family History Centre and get the film
" Index to Griffiths Evaluation" , search for your name ( usually spelt Egan
in Ireland - In fact Edward MacLysaght in his book, "The Surnames of
Ireland" doesn't show your spelling - so keep that in mind as you search).
Griffith's will show all the incidents of the name if property was owned or
leased, and as that evaluation was undertaken in Limerick around 1845/1850
it will be your first lead . Assume you find ,say, ten, then write down all
the parish names and map references for each one. You want to zero in on
Limerick, though you don't say whether it was the County or City.
Also with the list of parishes check the films, if any, on those parishes.
There are also films from 1864 on Civil registration of Births, Deaths and
Marriages.
Good luck.
