There was also, in some parishes, something called an oratory. I don't
know if masses were held there, but my grandmother's parents were married
at one in Innishannon, along with half a dozen other couples, as was the
custom on [Shrove Tuesday?] as it was the last chance to get married
before Lent. Sometimes there would be several weddings all at once with a
community breakfast following.
