Can anyone help me out? My family in Ireland and myself in America are
wondering how my Ggrandmother paid for her passage to America.
She came from Leitrim to NYC in 1885, alone, age 17. Before leaving, she was a
nun in a convent from age 13 - 17. We think the convent was in Rossinver.
Although she was a nun, she couldn't read or write and was only going to be a
scullery maid for the rest of her life.
She was bitterly estranged from her father and step-mother.
Where could the money for passage have come from?
Any ideas?
thank you.
