Crinigan is very close to the Irish forms of the name - O' Connagain and
MacCuinneagain which were anglicised to Cunnigan and then Cunningham(see
MacLysaght). So it is possible that he was registered as Crinigan which may
be a local version of the name. Alternatively, the name Cunningham could
have been adapted after emigration.
