Sir Crispin,
Well, seeing that you don't want to lower yourself to far <grin>...
How's about a bit of Military H'officers...does that get into
your Yes or No category <grin again>
Now being one of them ignorant colonials,
shock horror an Aussie!!!! <big Grin>
What information can you "dig up " or resurrect
from the skeleton cupboard about this group,
along with any other children etc of:-
BATTLEY of Belvedere Hall, Bray
BATTLEY D'Oyly William
Major (retired) 77th Regiment b: Jan. 1808
m:1839 Margaret dau. William Edie,
Esq. of Thorn Hill J.P. co. Tyrone by Dorothy his wife,
dau. of Nesbitt Downing, Esq. of Tubberdaly, J.P. King's co.
One son was:-
BATTLEY D'oyly Cade, Hon Lieut.-Colonel 3rd Batt.
The Duke of Cambridge's own Middlesex regiment
(Blimey!! we've gone across the sea to that
unmentionable place called England). <Mournful look now>
b: 1841
m: 1868 Annie Cecilia, dau. of William Henry Jackson,
Esq. of Inane, co. Tipperary
(Phew!! back to dear old mother Ireland,
thought I was in trouble for a while!!!) <really smirking now!!>
by Cecilia his wife, dau. of John Westropp, Esq.
of Attyfin (see Westropp of Attyfin), J.P. co. Limerick. <wide grin now>
Evidently D'oyly William BATTLEY and his lovely wife Mrgaret were the
owners of one Belvedere Hall located at Bray
(and this is where I am very lacking on detail),
apparently somewhere near Greystones or Delgany co. Wicklow
The info I have, seems to conflict , unless he moved about Ireland,
or these places are close to each other.
(Irish geography never was taught in Aussie schools...The executions
of the wives of Henry the Eighth took so long leaving no time to study
Ireland).
Question....Are Templecarrick, Bray, Greystones, & Delgany near each other ?
As the info. I have give all these places as the location of Belvedere Hall.
Belvedere Hall, I am led to believe, is now used as a School for
Spanish Students OR a school for teaching Spanish...unsure,
looking for information on this matter.
I remain sir, Your humble servant <grovelling now>
James of Adelaide (Jim), South Australia.
Greatest little state in the distant colonies of the Great South Land.
