Subject: Missing a Civil War Soldier/Ancestor?
Date: 22 May 2000 07:49:27 -0700
If so, that Civil War-era ancestor may have been aboard the steamship Sultana
when it exploded and sank 9 miles north of Memphis, TN on 27 April 1865. Over
1,500 of them died and----except by obscure National Archive military
records----are virtually unknown today!
Now you can search a database of 2,090 known passengers, most of whom were
paroled Union soldiers from the states of OH, TN, IN, MI, KY and WVa who had
formerly been imprisoned at either Andersonville (Georgia) or Cahaha (Alabama).
Over 1500 of them perished when the ship exploded and many have been lost to the
ages until now! It's entirely *FREE* and you should check it out and see if you
can find an ancestor!
