Subject: Re: Question on Family Relations
Date: Sat, 08 Jul 2000 13:10:18 GMT
My questions are:
1) Are William and the daughter of the second wife half-siblings
[through the father] or first cousins [through the mothers]? Can they be
both? Which takes precedence over the other, and why?
Yes, both relationships are present. I expect that the closer
relationship (half siblings) is what most genealogy programs will
display. In terms of what takes precedence, neither does.
2) What is my mother's relationship to the daughter of the second wife?
Is she my mother's half-aunt, if there is such a thing?
Yes, she is a half aunt. She is also a first cousin once removed
(through the two sisters who married Wilhelm).
3) What is my mother's relationship to the son of the daughter of the
second wife? Half-cousin?
Half first cousin (through William and the daughter) and second cousin
(through the two sisters that married Wilhelm)
