I just got a letter from a professional genealogist who advertized on the
net but prefers to correspond by mail. His offer is to search one
particular New York limb of my genealogy for fifty bucks. He sounds
sincere and professional but when I looked him up in Switchboard and other
phone books....he isn't listed. This sent up a red flag...He requires the
money up front...which seems reasonable to me...but my husband is
skeptical. I can't believe that it would cost so little to learn so much.
Anyone know if this is legit? Thanks....I think I am going to go with my
gut....which says this man is for real...but will wait till I hear if
there is any negative response....would have not given it a second thought
until I found that he is unlisted.
