Subject: Naturalization Papers

I haven't kept track of any discussions on this topic since I didn't think
I'd need it for my own family for a while. The other day, out of the blue,
my father-in-law brought me the Certificate of Naturalization of his
grandfather. Needless to say, my interest has suddenly shifted from my own
family to my husband's! My question is this: Is there somewhere that I can
find more detailed information on him? The document itself has a brief
discription of what he looked like, the names and ages of immediate family
members, the city he was currently living in and the country he came from.
Who would I write to to find the application for naturalization? I assume
that there is a record kept of such a thing? What additional information
would be in the app?

My husband's great-grandfather was John Ludovice (American name) or Jean
Ludovicz (Belgien? name). He came to the US from Belguim sometime between
1901 and 1904 with his wife (Catherine Hebler) and two young children. I
haven't found anything to give us any indication of where he came into port.
Our records of him begin in Gross Point, Illinois. He applied for
naturalization in Cook County.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Cherri
