Subject: Land Record Relationship?
Date: Mon, 02 Feb 1998 11:28:02 -0800

I'm trying to understand what the following excerpt from a land deed means
regarding Samuel MCCLURE b abt 1830 TN d abt 1868/1869. He married Elizabeth
(?). If this is the correct Samuel McClure, I have land records which show
Elizabeth a widow before marriage to Samuel. Her husband was James BROCK
who may have had a child named W. A. J. BROCK. Maybe someone can tell me by
the excerpt if W.A.J is brother, son, or what? "This indenture made and
entered into this the 17th day of Sep A.D. 1857 between Samuel L. McClure
and Elizabeth McClure his wife formerly Elizabeth Brock and widow of James
Brock deceased of the one part and W.A.J. Brock of the other part all of the
county of Decatur and state of Tennessee witnesseth . . . and in the
consideration of the sum of $300 to paid the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged we have bargained and sold and do hereby bargain sell and
convey unto the said W.A.J. Brock his heirs and assigns full rights, title,
claim, and interest we have in a cetain tract or parcel of land. It being a
dowers interest which decended to the said Elizabeth at the death of her
husband the said James Brock. . ."
Can anyone tell me what the relationship of W.A.J. might be to
Elizabeth, a son or brother? Thank you for any help or information. Trena
