International Soundex Reunion Registry (ISRR), a free, PASSIVE, adoption
search registry. P O Box 2312, Carson City, NV 89702. If you think you
might have need for a registration form at some time in the future, call
702 882 7755 or send an SASE to the address above and request a form so
it'll be on hand when you (or someone else) needs it.
There are many other adoption search registries, some of which are
online. Some are nothing more than scams while others are quite
ethical. When in doubt, consult the "experts" on alt.adoption for more
information. That's good advice too for state-run registries or
confidential intermediary (CI) programs which may or may not meet the
adoptee's needs.
Numerous search/support groups also exist in various cities around the
United States. More information on those can also be found online,
through Bastard Nation's website, or The Adoption Ring website, or
Voices of Adoption http://www.ibar.com/voices/.
Shea's Search Series has recently appeared on alt.adoption and provides
a good overview for those beginning an adoption search. If it's not
available currently, check dejanews.com.
The American Adoption Congress (AAC) and Bastard Nation (BN) hold annual
meetings (this year in WA in early April, and San Francisco later in the
spring, respectively) at which search issues are discussed along with
many other adoption issues. The AAC also has regional fall meetings.
Best wishes. Sue T.
