For anyone trying to find out if a newspaper was archived, a good
starting place is Cyndi's list at http://www.cyndislist.com
Click on Newspapers (about halfway down a very large page)
There are a lot of "general interest" links and also many organized
alphabetically (Edit/Search works well because sometimes the name
doesn't reflect the city or area it covers). Some links may tell about
archivals and microfilms, but if you can find some current newspapers in
the Gary area you can call them and they'll tell you if they know of an
archival site (sometimes the newspaper itself has archives, sometimes
you need to go to a library).
Also useful is the GenWeb site, at http://www.usgenweb.org
>From here you can go to the Indiana site, and then to Lake County. Many
times the county genweb pages contain info on area newspapers. Again,
you may luck out and find a link to an archival site or you may have to
call the paper.
