Subject: Syrian Emigrant Records

I would like to research the emigration of my grandfather from Syria
to Ellis Island, NYC, sometime between 1900 and 1929. I know I can
search the ship records for his name, but I couldn't find it in my
first search. Also, how can I get a copy of census records from
1900, 1910, and 1920? I am located in NYC. Is there a local office
or library that has records I can search?

Also, I'm interested in finding out about his family that he left in
Syria - siblings, parents, etc. Does anyone have information on how
to research that? Is there a Syrian records bureau that would
provide this information?
