Barbara,

Take a look at 'Henry' or 'Modified Henry' styles. They are
decendant text reports (as opposed to a tree format). Each
individual is assigned a number which indicates child number in the
family and generation.

For example the number '172A' in the Modified indicates 'child 1,
gen. 1; child 7, gen. 2; child 2, gen 3; child 10, gen 4'. In the
Henry system it would be '172(10)'.

I know that UFT can produce both styles, other programs may be able
to produce them as well.
