Why not? I don't understand the "by hand", I didn't see where she
wasn't going to use a computer...but even by hand, and with a shoe
box shy not start out with a good relationship numbering system.
I guess that's close to my heart because after gathering several
thousand descendants by the cluttered system of 1,2,3 I had to
switch over to the Henry System, modified, to save my sanity.
Richard has described it, so I won't repeat that part, just that my
modification, started by someone else in 1932, ultimately save my
bacon.
My particular modification entailed lettering each child in our
progenator's family, A...F. I very innocently did that because a
highly revered genealogist did that in 1932 and I didn't want to
disturb things because everyone knew what branch "C" was.
So, to illustrate, I'm a 7th generation NICKELL from Ireland with
ID# 1B8FB21.
It's great to have your db software do the numbering, but that's
really a mess to those you happen to send a report to; and if like
PAF 2.31 it's NOT IN ANY ORDER. But by using your own system, re
your db's, there's double bookkeeping involved and possible
confusion to you!!!
Just my 5c worth.
