A half first cousin (to you) is a person that descends from your
grandfather (or grandmother), but not from both.
A first cousin once removed (to you) is a person who is the child of
your first cousin; this may also be a "half-" relationship. Whether
half- or full-cousin the "cousin once removed" has only half as much
genetic material in common with you, and with the CA, as does the
"cousin."
Simple? Not really.
